Friends of Okura Bush (FOOB) are a group of like-minded people from various backgrounds who are passionate about the preservation of our natural world. After years of enjoying the Okura Bush, we became aware of the diminishing sounds of a dying forest.
A decision was made to get together and form a group in order to protect and enhance the biodiversity of this precious patch of remnant forest.
We are actively engaged in controlling biological pollution such as noxious weed and pest animals within the Okura Bush and its surrounding natural areas.
We aim to:
- ensure that the ecological environment of the Okura Bush Reserve is restored to its former glory and thereafter maintained, thus allowing people to experience and enjoy its richness and diversity.
- preserve archaeological and historical sites within the reserve.
- enhance the Reserves educational and recreational potential in ways that are compatible with ecological conservation values.
- ensure that the Okura Bush’s restoration plan is promoted and implemented through the work of the Department of Conservation, the Auckland Council, Iwi and the community.
